Our Story

We met in December of 2004 at the University of Florida while we were both undergraduate students.  On August 22, 2009 we were married in a beautiful ceremony in Gainesville.  The following August DeWayne graduated PT school and Caroline started her PhD in Health Education and Behavior.  For years we prayed about the right time to have a child and were blessed in February of 2013 to find out we were expecting.  The pregnancy was in question from the first few appointments with a blood clot diagnosed at week 5 continuing through week 15.  We prayed for this child and prayed that this child would be our take home baby.  At week 12, doctors were concerned our little one might have down syndrome.  A week later the results were in indicating our baby BOY was chromosomally healthy.  For the first time in our pregnancy we were finally able to start to relax and enjoy being pregnant, with the exception of Caroline being sick most days. On May 29 we went for our antomoy ultrasound, all excited to see our little boy.  During the appointment the tech was very upfront and honest with this and let us know that she was concerned with his stomach.  She had mentioned this at the 12 week appointment as well, but said it may have just been early.  We met with Dr. Eggerman and he let us know he thought our little guy had a Congential Diaphramatic Hernia (CDH).  For both of us this was the first time hearing about this condition.  In all honesty we were relived because this diagnosis could be treated unlike the previous concern of downs syndrome.  We are still in the mist of learning and understanding about CDH, but we are still confident that our little guy, Jackson Dean, will one day come home with us.

We have both been devoted Gator fans for many years (ignoring the years we each rebelled and were FSU fans) so it is only appropriate that we will be delivering at Shands at the University of Florida.  Dr. David Kays will be caring for our little guy and we trust that through him God will work a miracle and protect Jackson Dean.
